For us in Carinthia, holidays are about culture and relaxation. They are for
people who want active holidays, as well as for those who prefer to
simply
slowly unwind.
When snow is still lying on the ground in the rest of
Austria, spring has usually begun in Carinthia. By summer, the lakes of this
beautiful region are sparkling and inviting. This southernmost state of Austria
has the highest number of hours of sunshine and the warmest bathing lakes in
Austria. It is a paradise for all who love water and beautiful landscapes. The
best lakes in the region - for example the Ossiacher See, the Wörthersee and the
Faakersee to name just a few - are only a few kilometres from our 'Country Hotel
Nudelbacher' in Feldkirchen. Every day they inspire some to pursue sporting activities, and others simply to
lie on the bank and soak in the positive energy of the
sunshine.
Anyone who's interested in exploring culture in Carinthia will be delighted at the range of what is on offer. Why not start with a trip to the Mediaeval period? There are many castles and fortresses in easy reach of Feldkirchen. For example, Castle Hochosterwitz - the most famous fortress in Austria - is very close by. It sits on cliffs 150 metres high, and its wonderful architecture makes it a stunning sight. 14 gate towers lead to a medieaval fortress with armoury, museum, weapons collection and other historical collections. For those who don't fancy walking up, there is a lift. Other castles in the area include Schloss Porcia - the renaissance castle in Spittal an der Drau - as well as Burg Friesach, Schloss Wolfsburg and many more.
The Celts and Romans were also amongst those who either
passed through or settled here. Explore their fascinating history at the 'World
of Celts' centre in Frög, the Celts Museum in Gracarca or the excavations at
Gurina in the Gail Valley.
Local folk customs and culture are very
important for us here as well. Carinthian traditions are very evident here at
Easter and Christmas, for example.
Come and spend your holiday
at the 'Country Hotel Nudelbacher', whatever the time of year. You will return
home refreshed and reinvigorated!
The Bamberger Amthof reminds of the lordship of the bishopric Bamberg (1166 -
1759) in Feldkirchen.
The Amthof museum (Amthofgase 5) offers the visitors an
exemplary selection of illustrated showpieces.
In the center of the sunny Glan Valley where the upper narrow bottom of the valley starts to widen and where the old Roman road crossed the Glan river at Mautbrücken is the formerly traffic controlling Glanegg castle in previously strategic location at the steep northern valley side.
With 80 sculptures made by international sculptors and following the motto “Nature and culture in harmony”, Carinthia’s largest wooden sculpture park is a unique place of strength and tranquillity. The magnificent theatrical figure exhibition “Albeck lässt Puppentanzen” (Albeck lets the dolls dance), the restaurant with a kitchen open the whole day, and the gift shop make Albeck Castle a charming destination.

The Carinthian Summer music festival is ranked among the most important in Austria today. It began in 1969 on the shores of Lake Ossiach and is renowned for the classical and new musical talent that it showcases. Magic masks, poison arrows, ancestral skulls and the Lingkor, the reproduction of a Tibetan pilgrim’s trail which winds up the rock in front of the museum in a spectacular way. You’ll be enchanted!
About 3000 years ago dead of the upper class were buried in Frög in huge burial mounds with precious objects like jewellery and weapons. These are the first references of a capital in the Carinthian region. The Celtic World shows our forefathers’ way of living, cult, world view and social structure in experimental archaeology.
